Americas Most Expensive Home Sells For 120 Million

April is apparently the month for $100 million deals.

On the heels of the $102 million sale of the Fleur de Lys in Los Angeles comes word that Copper Beech Farm, the most-expensive single-family home in the United States to ever list publicly, has sold for a staggering nine-figure sum.

Like the Fleur de Lys, the prized Greenwich, CT, property was similarly thought of as unsellable—at least at its $100 million-plus price.  After debuting on the market for a then-record $190 million in May 2013, Copper Beech Farm saw its price drop considerably in the months that followed—first a $50 million price cut in July and then a $10 million adjustment this past January.

In the end, however, a buyer was willing to go beyond the $100 million price tag to secure the pricey property. Citing documents filed with the Greenwich Town Clerk’s office, reports that Copper Beech Farm closed with a final price of $120 million — $70 million less than its original ask and just shy of the $132.5 million paid for Broken O Ranch in Montana, which sold in 2012 for $132.5 million.

Occupying 50 private acres in Greenwich, Copper Beech Farm features 4,000 feet of private frontage on Long Island Sound, a pair of offshore islands, and a 15,000-square-foot mansion built in 1896 with Victorian and French Renaissance influences.

An 1,800-foot cobblestone driveway leads up to the mansion-estate, which lives up to its unworldly price tag with a range of luxury touches. Grand living spaces feature beautiful hand-carved fireplaces and paneled finishes, and soaring ceilings boast intricate artwork. The dining room features an extravagant fireplace, columns, rich oak paneling and a tracery ceiling. A solarium comes lined in detailed glass.

Outside, the regal setting contains a 75-foot heated pool that sits adjacent to an octagonal pool house and dressing room, an enormous spa and large terraces. Grassy hills roll into formal gardens,  courtyards and an apple orchard. A tennis court, a stone carriage house with a clock tower, and a shingled cottage with water views also reside on the premises.

With Copper Beech Farm now off-market, the title of most expensive listing on® falls to a 258-acre parcel in the prime Bel Air community of Los Angeles, which currently lists for sale at $125 million.

For the most expensive, single-family home listing, the honor goes to the New York mansion of Florida Panthers owner, Vincent Viola, whose incredible home currently lists for $114.07 million.
